THE TENTH GYM Part 1
By Arthur
Ash, Misty, and Brock have been together for over a year now. During that time, Ash defeated all of the gym
trainers and has achieved the rank of pokemon master and leader of the Pallet Town Gym. Misty is still around due to
the fact that she is determined to show Ash that she is better than he is (did I mention that Ash finally bought Misty a
new bike?). Unfortunately Brock is still single, but that's ok. On with the story.
In the Pallet Town Gym…
“Pikachu, finish it off!” shouted Ash right before Pikachu sent a burst of lightning through his opponent's Golduck. With that last
attack, the Golduck sank to the ground and passed out. “That no good Golduck is worthless!!! He's been trouble since we
saved him from that Pokemon Center.” complained Misty. “I can't believe he still follows me around.” “Calm down, Misty.”
said Brock. “He has his moments.” “Oh yeah? Like when?” “Remember the Fuchsia gym? Psyduck beat Team Rocket with
just one powerful psychic blast.” reasoned Brock. “Yea, but it took him days and days of getting hit on the head to do it.”
“What's the matter…can't take losing to a guy that is a better trainer than you, is more of a sportsman than you, and has
more self-control than you?” interceded Ash. “Ash Ketchum…even if you did buy me a new bike just two days ago and have
not complained at all about losing, I'll never think of you as a sportsman with any self-control!” snapped Misty. “Okay you two,
I think you're going to have to cut this argument short. After all, we still have to shop for supplies before heading to the big
tournament.” reminded Brock. “Alright, let's go!” agreed Ash.
At the competition…
“Next up, Ash versus Katan!” announced the announcer. “Who's Katan?” Ash wondered out loud. “He's the head of the tenth
pokemon gym (after pallet).” explained Brock. “The tenth gym!?! What tenth gym?” screamed Ash. “I don't know,” said
Brock, “but if the judges allow him to come every year, then there must be some truth to this tenth gym.” “I guess so…”
conceded Ash.
“Now calling Ash! Get moving or you'll be disqualified!” warned the announcer. “See you guys after I win!” called
back Ash as he raced for the ring. “Good luck Ash!” replied Misty. “C'mon Misty, let's get to our seats before the match
starts” urged Brock. “I don't know about this Brock,” Misty said “I have a bad feeling about this match.” “Me too,” agreed
Brock “me too…”
The Battle…
“The trainers will be going against each other in a two pokemon match with a time limit of ten minutes a round.” declared the
announcer. “Okay Katan, are you ready to rumble?” challenged Ash, remembering when Misty had said the same thing before
his test for the Cascade Badge. Katan just stood there and smiled what might have been something between a sneer and
absolute hatred turned into a small facial smile (if one can imagine such a thing), sending chills down Ash's back. “I choose you,
Pikachu!” declared Ash while sending Pikachu into the arena. While still saying nothing, Katan threw a pokeball into the arena.
When the pokeball opened, Pikachu was staring down a large body of steel with arms, legs, and a face that would scare a
Blastoise out of its shell. “It looks like Katan chose to send out a Lancer to meet Ash's Pikachu. This should be an interesting
match.” explained the announcer.
“Pikachu, give it a thunderbolt.” declared Ash. In no time flat, Pikachu's lightning bolt was headed right for the Lancer's
chest. And in no time flat, the metallic skin that was about to be vaporized absorbed the bolt. “Lancer, amplify and counter-
attack.” were Katan's first words that anybody had heard him say so far. Lancer gave off a bright corona for a second, pointed
a finger at Pikachu, and shot a supercharged beam of electricity into Pikachu. “Pikachu!” screamed Ash in worry. Pikachu's
next attempt to harm the Lancer was to try and charge it. Now I don't know whether or not you readers know how hard solid
steel is when it hits your head dead on. So let me just put it this way, Pikachu slammed his head and swiftly proceeded to fall
unconscious. “Pikachu, return!” demanded Ash as Pikachu was sucked up into the pokeball (yes, Pikachu does go inside the
pokeball). “Dragonair, I choose you.” said Ash while sending the snake-like pokemon into battle. “Dragonair, blast it with a
hyperbeam.” said Ash, at which point the Dragonair shot a beam of pure energy at Lancer. When the beam reached Lancer, it
came out the other side leaving a gaping hole in its wake. Just then, Lancer began to glow. “What's going on? What's
happening?” questioned Ash out loud. Then, Lancer self-destructed, knocking Dragonair back into Ash, who was knocked
unconcious.
What evil fate may befall Ash? Is Katan more than he seems? What about Brock and Misty? And what is this tenth
gym anyway? All these answers and more in my next installment.
