THE TENTH GYM Part 3
By Arthur
Dark Force Rising…
“Come out Gary!” Ash shouted into the void, “It's time to battle!” With that, Gary materializes right before their eyes. “Four
against four Ash?” asked Gary. “Four against four works for me.” replied Ash. “For my starting pokemon, Charizard, I choose
you!” screams Ash while releasing Charizard into the arena. “I'll start off with entity!” says Gary when he releases a huge gray
cloud. “Charizard, give it a fire blast!” commanded Ash. Unfortunately for Gary, the gas burns and reduces Entity to half of its
health. “Entity, constrict the life out of that Charizard!” demands Gary. Before Charizard can react, Entity begins to asphyxiate
its prey. Seeing that his Charizard could be killed by this creature, Ash calls back Charizard and sends out Pidgeot. “Is that
so!” Gary taunts, “Well then, I call upon the powers of Sabre!” The next thing anyone knows, Pidgeot is facing a Lancer that is
juggling two-sided swords. “Sabre, swords dance now!” calls Gary. The Sabre throws a sword at Pidgeot. Pidgeot does not
move fast enough and ends up with a clipped wing. “Oh yeah?” says Ash with a flare of confidence, “Pidgeot, Mirror Move!”
Pidgeot complies by sending the sword that was thrown at it back with enough force to disrupt the Sabre's juggling and to send
the swords into the Sabre! “Sabre, return!” calls Gary. ”Now time to get serious…Rapier, go! Now Ash sends in an
Alakazam to meet this new form of Lancer, except that this time, the Rapier has two long blades instead of two hands.
“Alakazam, psychic attack now!” screamed Ash. Alakazam then sends a mental bolt into Rapier. Rapier takes some damage
and then starts to slash at Alakazam. Despite Alakazam's mental shielding, the Rapier scores several hits, therefore reducing the
Alakazam to one fourth of its original strength. “Alakazam, counter attack now!” yells Ash. Alakazam leaps at Rapier only to
go flying back in pain. However, the Rapier has also crumpled to a pile. Both trainers call back their pokemon and prepare for
the final match. “I'll call Pikachu!” Ash declares and sends Pikachu out onto the battlefield. “Now, it's time for you to discover
what pokemon I originally began with, Ash!” announces Gary. “Go pokeball!” When Gary's pokemon comes out of the ball,
everyone recoils in surprise at what it is. “Dexter, analyze.” said Ash. “Mew, a space-age pokemon. It is considered to be one
of a kind and should be approached with extreme caution.” reported Dexter. “Like I told you Ash,” Gary says, “it's good to
have a grandfather in the pokemon business.” “Pikachu, use your thunder attack!” orders Ash. Pikachu lets loose with a huge
bolt that seems to severely injure Mew. “Oh yeah?” Gary brags, “Well watch this.” With that, Mew jumps up and sends a pillar
of water at Pikachu. “I recognize that attack,” thought Misty “it's Dragon Rage! Please Ash, you can do it!” Pikachu
jumps back into the action with sonic boom. The attack sends Mew reeling. “If I go down, I'm taking you with me!” screams
Gary in a demonic voice. Suddenly, Mew bursts into a huge cloud of pure hatred that encircles Ash. “Ash!!!” cries Misty.
Victory…?
Brock and Misty run over to Ash, who is lying on the ground. A black stone appears on Ash's chest. “It's the Badge of
Darkness!” exclaims Brock. “Ash really won!” But Misty's mind is elsewhere…”Come on Ash! You can fight this thing!
I know that inside you is a good heart that is stronger than all this.” And suddenly, a mind touches hers…”Misty,
I'm trying to fight it. I don't know if I can hold on. You can do it Ash! Just concentrate on the light…………
Slowly, Ash begins to open his eyes. “Ash! You're alright!” exclaims Brock. “Hi Misty, it's good to back in the world
of the living.” says Ash. “Oh Ash…you really do care.” Misty says warmly. Then, Ash leans up and gives Misty a kiss. “So
Misty, what are you doing Friday night?” asks Ash. “Nothing yet. Why, what did you have in mind?” Misty teases. “Well, I
was wondering if you would like to…you know…and…like…” Ash stammers. “I'll see you at my house at 8:00.” Misty says
understandingly. “Got it!” Ash confirms. “I'll leave you two alone, I've got to go home and cook up some dinner.” Brock says.
He then leaves Ash and Misty alone. “I guess that this is goodbye for now.” Misty says, already sounding depressed. “Don't
worry, I'll see you Friday, remember?” Ash says. “Ash, don't forget to bring your pokemon.” Misty reminds Ash. “Why would
I do that?” Ash asks. “I still have to beat you, remember?” Misty teases. “Well, we'll see what happens.” Ash says with a touch
of nervousness. “Indeed we shall, Ash.” Misty says, “Indeed we shall…”
